POLAR BEAR CAPITAL OF THE WORLD!

 POLAR BEARS OF CHURCHILL

Imagine a human settlement where polar bears can be observed in the wild!

Thousands of visitors from around the world visit each fall for the excitement of seeing these magnificent animals here in Churchill, Manitoba.

October and November is the prime season when the Polars Bears begin to return from their summer on the tundra to the ice that forms every winter on Hudson Bay as they search for seals.

These fabulous white bears can move with surprising speed and agility. With a highly acute sense of smell, they are also skilled hunters who can swim at 40 km/h speeds. They are very sensitive to smell; detecting the presence of seals under three feet of snow and ice or on land and may sense their prey 30 kilometers away.

Frequently called “Lords of the Arctic”, these spectacular animals are huge!   Male polar bears can grow to more than 600 kg (1,320 lbs) and stand 3.05 meters (10 feet) tall.

Churchill has various tours that are a very popular way to encounter these magnificent bears in the wild.
